Davido Seals Netflix Series Deal

Davido [David Adedeji Adeleke] has announced that he has an upcoming Netflix series based on his life that will be released in December 2023. The Nigerian singer is known for his colourful personality and great music. The Netflix series – simply titled DAVID – is a welcome surprise to his fans worldwide but is especially exciting for his African fan base as it’s quite the achievement to see an African artist being represented on a global platform.

“I have a movie coming out in December with Netflix,” Davido said in an interview with Esquire Middle East. “It’s very, very big. This is the first time I’ve said anything about it, actually. It’s a documentary, a docu-series about my life, called David. I shouldn’t be talking about this, but yeah.”

Davido rose to fame after releasing Dami Duro, the second single from his debut album released in 2012 called Omo Baba Olowo. In the same year he won the Next Rated Award at the Headies. In 2016 he signed a record deal with Sony Music and a few months later he founded the record label Davido Music Worldwide. In 2019 New African magazine listed Davido as one of the 100 most influential Africans. He recently released his forth studio album, Timeless.

The 30 year old artist is not a stranger to the film world. Although brief, he starred as himself in Coming 2 America, two years ago. Davido has expressed interest in moving beyond the music industry and into film.

“I want to shoot movies too. I’m building a creative agency, so short films will be a part of that.”

We are excited to see what Davido and Netflix have to offer with this new upcoming series and we look forward to more content from the continent on Netflix.
