We here at Couture are ready to feed your wanderlust with a list of places to visit and unique activities to add to your bucket list and future travel plans. While adding activities like seeing the Northern Lights orienting Thailand are great, we need to take the time to appreciate what our mother continent has to offer. If you do not have a bucket list, we’ll help you get started with things to look forward to right here in our home continent.

Birds Nest Segera Retreat

Starting off with Kenya, a must have on the list is the Birds Nest Segera Retreat Set in the heart of the Laikipia plains. The unique Birds Nest retreat can be enjoyed for one night following a wildlife drive or bush walk. One can enjoy sleeping on the top deck outdoors on the nest like structure which provides a 360° view of the area and the animals in the morning or one can sleep inside in the first floor bedroom. At your arrival champagne and picnic style foods are laid out in the open-air nest for you to enjoy.

Cycling at Hell’s Gate National Park

Located south of Lake Naivasha in Kenya Hell’s Gate National Park is one of the more unique safari destinations along the Rift Valley. Turn your trip to Hell’s Gate into an experience by going cycling at hell’s gate with Zebras, Giraffes and Warthogs along two circuits – the 14km Buffalo Circuit and the 8km Twiga Circuit. This adventure provides a unique experience for nature and fitness enthusiast alike. Just make sure to start early to beat the heat and get a better chance of getting a closer view of some of the amazing wildlife at Hell’s Gate.

Okavango Delta’s Mokoro Ride

The Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland delta fed by the Okavango River in Northern Botswana. Boasting of lush  crystal clear lagoons, enjoy your visit with a ride in a traditional mokoro otherwise known as a dugout canoe. Mokoro are traditionally made by hollowing out the trunks of mature trees such as jackal berry or sausage trees. A single guide steers the boat from the tail end with a long pole called gnash. You get to also experience and view the hundreds of animals and birds that pass through the region, making for a unique safari experience by mokoro.

One of Ethiopia’s hottest attractions – literally and figuratively – the Danakil Depression could not be missed on this list. With an other worldly look it’s easy to see why this place made it on the bucket list with sulphurous hot springs, acid pools, steaming fissures and salt mountains providing a landscape which looks like it’s straight out of a sci-fi movie. You also get the chance to climb an active volcano, The Erta Ale.

The Blue City in Morocco

Chefchaouen, or the blue city in Morocco is a city much like its casual name is painted completely blue. You’ve probably seen it on pinterest or instagram, this city is a must visit and a great place to take lots of photos. Unlike other cities in Morocco this city doesn’t have much in terms of must-see places or activities but the city itself is a must see making it perfect for a calm and relaxed trip exploring the city.

Senegal’s Pink Lake

Speaking of beautiful unique places to visit Senegal’s pink lake is another unique destination. Lake Retba or Lac Rose as known by the locals, gets its pink hue from Dunaliella Salina bacteria which is attracted by the lakes high salt content. The colour is especially visible during the dry seasons from November to June. If you love to swim, you can probably add swimming in a pink lake to your bucket list. Otherwise, it makes for a great day trip for lunch and boat riding, as well as mingling with the locals – which is always a great experience.
