Edwin Chiloba’s Most Iconic Looks

Edwin Kiprotich [better known as Edwin Chiloba] was a Fashion Designer, Model and LGBTQ Rights Activist that has made waves on both local and international media for the most part of January 2023 as a result of his gruesome murder on the 4^th of January. His passing has also triggered heated conversations in Kenya about LGBTQ Rights with many celebrities and influencers lauding him for not only being out but being vocal about his chosen lifestyle.

While a lot can be said on the matter, we at Couture Africa would like to first and foremost celebrate his life and him for who he fundamentally was; one of East Africa’s Leading Male Fashionistas. What better way to do that than highlighting some of the iconic looks he pulled off in true Couture Fashion!

Everything in this outfit is amazing, from the all white ensemble, to the hat which reminds us of the one worn by Billy Porter at the 2020 Grammys. Edwin definitely knew how to put together an iconic ensemble and we love this look and the fan he paired it with. Talk about Fabulous.

Everything about this outfit is extraordinarily fabulous and over the top. We cannot help but love it all; from the giant bow to the faux fur sleeves. He looked absolutely spectacular showing that men too can dress all the way up and make a statement.

The mixture of lace fringe detailing and pearls takes this look to a whole other level. It was amazing how he was always able to take fabrics that are predominantly seen as feminine and slay an outfit with such style and confidence.

It’s easy to see why Edwin was a fashion designer and model. He wore this outfit while attending Kitenge Fashion Fest 2022 and captioned the Instagram post “Own it! Embrace it! Fashion🤴🏻” and he truly did own this look from the colour palette to the patterns this whole look screams African royalty.

We love a man confident enough to wear heels – especially heels this high. That, coupled with the bright yellow ensemble that simply makes his skin pop and the arritude [not a typo]. Love Love Love!

The ankara neckpiece with the chain detail and the wide-leg pants is just LIFE!!! The entire look brings out his creativity as a fashion designer and no-one could rock it better.

We all know fuchsia has been a hot colour the past year and of course Edwin didn’t disappoint. Colour blocked with the bright blue blazer makes this a look one cannot miss.

A clean cut suit is always a win and Edwin serves this up in snazzy green with a dapper turtle neck for a minimalist chic, yet fashion forward look. 

Edwin Chiloba’s looks were just as stunning as the man wearing them. We are truly sad to see such an iconic young man pass as he still had so much to give the world. We hope that in the future we can see an end to homophobia in Kenya and that everyone – regardless of their orientation – can have the confidence to step out as unafraid as Edwin in style and flair.
