Nairobi Fashion Week 2022

It’s 7pm on Friday the 25th of November. In the halls of the Sarit Expo Centre guests eagerly await to enter and enjoy the show the first of a two-day show. A buzz of excitement fills the air, meanwhile backstage the same buzz is mixed in with chaos as the models, designers and staff get ready to put on an unforgettable show. That’s right we’re talking about Nairobi Fashion Week, after a four year hiatus the show came back ready to blow us away with designers, both veterans and new comers, from all over Africa under the theme Blue Print.

The event organiser, Brian Kihindas was excited to have the show back on Nairobi’s calendar saying, “What really inspired us was the need to create a pan African platform that would be a creative meeting hub for African designers. Where design creatives would put a focus on African fabrics. This is our DNA.”

It was exciting to see all the different silhouettes, designs and energies each designer displayed. Gone is the era where almost everything seen on the runway is African print and similar in design, this year we really got a taste for the creatives use and exploration of other fabrics. It was runway full of diversity from hot pink street style adorned in pins to avant-garde garments with unique silhouettes, I must congratulate the Nairobi Fashion Week team for selecting an impeccable range of designers to showcase the talent of Africa in different shapes and forms.
